All Seams are 1/4″ seam allowance

Refer to the Friendship star block using two blue/cream prints 2″ squares, one blue and cream print 2×5″ rectangle, four cream/white prints 2″ squares and two cream print 2 x 3 1/2″ rectangles to make a friendship star block. Repeat to make a total of 124 Friendship star blocks.

Assemble Your Quilt

  1. Lay out the 124 pieced Friendship star blocks and 123 assorted blue/cream print 5″ squares in 19 horizontal rows.
  2. Sew together the blocks in each row. Press the seam allowances toward the blue/cream larger squares.
  3. Join the rows to complete your Friendship start quilt pattern center. Press the seam allowance in one direction. The center (before borders) should measure 59 x 86″.

Add the Borders

Cut and piece your border 3 1/2 x 42″ strips to make the following:

  • 2-3 1/2 x 92″ Border strips
  • 2- 3 1/2 x 59″ border strips

Sew the short border strips to the top and bottom edges of your quilt center. Add the long border strips to each edge, right sides together to finish your friendship star quilt pattern.

Press your seam allowances toward the border.

Layer your quilt top, batting and backing as you usually do. Quilt as desired with either your long arm or you can use your domestic machine with some patience.

Use your fabric to bind the quilt and use it on a bed or give it as a gift. I would love to see it via email when you finish it.
