Cut Your Fabric for Friendship Star Quilt Pattern

- 5 yards of cream or white fabric
- 16 1/2 yards assorted pieces of a blue/cream print. Here are some Blue Fabric options from Fat Quarter Shop
Create your Blocks

- Use a fabric marking pen to mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of your cream fabrics and blue fabrics (2″ square)
- Align the blue 2″ square with 1 end of the cream background print 2 x 3 1/2″ rectangle. See the diagram 1 noting the direction of the diagonal line you drew.
- Stitch on the drawn line. Trim the seam allowance to 1/4″ and press the attached triangle open to make a rectangle unit A. the pieced rectangle should measure 2 x 3 1/2″. Repeat to make a second rectangle.
- Align the lighter background 2″ square with each of the blue star print 2×5″ rectangle (diagram 2)
- Stitch on the drawn lines. Trim the seam allowances to 1/4″ and press the attached triangles open to make a rectangle unit B. That rectangle should measure 2×5″.
- See the bottom diagram for placement. Lay it out and sew it together to make your friendship star quilt block.
- Sew together the pieces to the top and bottom rows. Join the rows to make a friendship star quilt block. It should measure 5″ squared.
