Cut your Fabric for Card Trick Quilt Block

The Fabric is from Fat Quarter Shop. The bundle has 29 fat quarter from Moda Fabric
- Light/Cream: 2 – 7.25″ squares, and 4 – 2.5″ squares
- 4 Other Fabrics: From EACH color – 1 – 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle, and 1 – 2.5″ square

Assemble Your Block

All seams are 1/4″ seam allowance
Step 1:
Create a four patch quilt block by using your four different darker colored Fabrics. Lay out the four colored 2.5″ squares and sew into two rows. Press the seam allowances in opposite directions. I have included more photos and more tips in the PDF that you can download. It also includes assembling a quilt with these quilt blocks.
Step 2:
Sew the two rows together and press the seam allowances. You can see in the picture below that I’ve used the tweak/twirl/furl method for pressing but you can press however you prefer.
Step 3:
Lay out the Step 2 Four Patch unit, the four colored 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangles, and the four Light/Cream 2.5″ squares. Sew the patches into three rows. Press your seams towards the darker rectangles.

Step 4
Sew the three rows together and press the seam allowances toward the outside of the block
Step 5:
Cut the two Light/Cream 7.25″ squares diagonally from corner to corner. You may want to use a little spray starch depending on your fabric.
Step 6
Mark the center of your block and triangle and line that up and sew 2 opposite triangles to your block. Press your seams towards the triangles of your card trick quilt block.
Step 7
Now do the other 2 triangles so that you have an entire block. Go ahead and square up your block using your cutting mat and rotary cutter.
