Create Quilt Blocks

For a baby quilt, you will need 30 quilt blocks. Each block measures 10 x 10″ squared. I used the fat quarter bundle from Fat Quarter Shop.

Sew Your Diamond Panes Quilt Pattern

You have a choice here. You can do the layout as I did, but you can also make a totally different looking quilt by changing the placement of your blocks.

Step 1:

You need 5 squares for each row and 6 rows for your length for a baby quilt. Sew Block 1 to block 2 using a 1/4″ seam allowance. You want to press your seams all one direction. Finish your row and then create your other 5 rows. You should have 6 total.

Step 2:

Square up your rows. Make sure all your rows are the saw length.

Step 3:

Sew your rows of your diamond panes quilt pattern together again using that 1/4″ seam allowance. It’s important to line up your seams and use sewing pins or clips to hold everything in place.

If you are newer to quilting and your seams are off a little, it’s ok. It’s just part of quilting.

Step 4

Once your rows are all sewn, add a 2-3″ border. Finish your quilt adding a backing and batting. You can easily finish your quilt on your domestic sewing machine or long arm quilter.

Finding with binding and keep for your own baby or give as a gift.
