Log Cabin Quilt Block

This simple Log Cabin Quilt block is made using Fat Quarter bundle fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop. There are 12 fabrics in the bundle so you can choose different layouts if you want.

Cut Your Fabrics

• Light 1 (Light Blue): 1 – 2.5″ square
• Light 2 (Light pink with flowers): 1 – 2.5″ square, and 1 – 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle
• Medium 1 (Orange With flowers): 1 – 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle, and 1 – 2.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle
• Medium 2 (Green): 1 – 2.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle, and 1 – 2.5″ x 8.5″ rectangle
• Dark (Orange bottom fabric): 1 – 2.5″ x 8.5″ rectangle, and 1 – 2.5″ x 10.5″ rectangle

Sewing Instructions

Block 1

Place the Light 1 (Light Blue) 2.5″ square and the Light 2 (Light flowers) 2.5″ square right sides together and sew along one edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Press the seam allowance toward the Light 2 (Pink with flowers) fabric.

Block 2:

Now you can sew the Light Pink with flowers 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle to the block 1

And press the seam allowance toward the longer light pink with flower rectangle. Are you loving making this log cabin quilt block. You are making great progress.

Block 3

Next, sew the Medium 1 (orange flowers) 2.5″ x 4.5″ rectangle to the top of your block. Hopefully you see a pattern here.

Block 4

Sew the Medium 1 (orange flowers) 2.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle to the side and press your seams.

Block 5

Continue the process using the Medium 2 (Green) rectangles, always pressing the seam allowances toward the rectangle you just added.

Block 6

Add your final rectangle to the top and press your seams. This is the next to last step of your log cabin quilt block.

Block 7

Finish your log cabin quilt block by adding the side rectangle and pressing your seam. You may need to straighten your square. It should measure 10 x 10″ and if you want a 12 x 12″ square, simply add one more row.
